Na serious celebration dey go on as Nigeria women basketball team, D’Tigress, don win dem fifth AfroBasket title in a row, after dem beat Mali 78–64 for the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket wey happen for Palais des Sports de Treichville on Sunday.

This latest win mean say D’Tigress don extend their unbeaten run for African basketball to 29 games, something wey start since after third-place match for the 2015 edition. With this victory, Nigeria don become the first country for Africa to win the women’s Afrobasket five times straight, and dem still never lose any game for over eight years.

The final match no be small fight, as Mali show strong power in the first half, but D’Tigress no gree fall. The game tie 41–41 by halftime, but for second half, Nigeria begin show why dem be champions. Players like Amy Okonkwo, Ezinne Kalu, Promise Amukamara and Victoria Macaulay step up big time as dem lead the team pull away with clear 14-point win. Coach Rena Wakama, wey be the first woman to coach Nigeria to this kind level, don enter history books as she guide D’Tigress to back-to-back continental glory.

D’Tigress win all their matches for this tournament — from Rwanda to Mozambique, Cameroon and then Senegal for the semi-final — before the final showdown with Mali. For her outstanding performance, Amy Okonkwo collect Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament for the second time, and she enter the Top Five Best Players list along with Delicia Washington of South Sudan, Sika Kone of Mali, Cierra Dillard of Senegal, and Jane Asinde of Uganda.
